Qimmit: A Clash of Two Truths

edited August 2013 in Hauling Laika
Posting this video into the hauling laika section since Vladimir said the Inuits of Russian Federation keep the same hauling laikas as the Qimmiqs of Canada and Greenland Dogs of Denmark. Not to mention genetic research (articles can be found from Fan Hitch) showed the dogs are practically the same breeds...

  • This video was too sad. Still, thank you for sharing.

    Slightly off-topic...
I'm a Malamute owner and I was told (by some Malamute people at a show) that at one time, the Qimmiq and Malamute were very similar/the same. Now, I think that the Malamute is much more "refined" for showing than its cousins--so much so that I had a Malamute person guess that London (my Mal) was a CED instead of a 'moot because he didn't look the "type" enough.

I was also thinking, in the Chukotka Sled Dog link that @Calia posted, that many of those dogs looked VERY similar to the Malamutes you see in older pictures.
  • @crisp - not sure about the mals, but the Chukotka Sled Dog was one of the "breeds" imported and later developed into the Siberian Husky.
  • interesting. thanks for posting this!
